Prospective Scholars

Welcome to the Southern and Central Illinois Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (SCI-LSAMP)! We are excited that you are interested in learning more about the project and applying to participate as a Scholar.  

Scholar Eligibility

  • Be enrolled full-time in an approved STEM major
  • Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Identify as Black, African-American, Hispanic and Latino American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander
  • Desire to enroll in graduate school and/or pursue a career in a STEM
  • Have a cumulative 2.5 GPA

Scholar Expectations

  • Attend monthly SCI-LSAMP sponsored activities (e.g. monthly professional development meetings, alliance-wide activities, annual research symposium)
  • Attend mentoring sessions with SCI-LSAMP leadership team and faculty mentors
  • Participate in research engagement activities 

Application (Deadline: Monday, February 17, 2025)

  • Applications are accepted from students who meet the eligibility requirements and are willing to meet the program expectations. Completed application packages must include the following:

    • Application form
      • Personal and academic information
      • Three (3) brief responses to (i) why are you interested in participating in the SCI-LSAMP program, (ii) describe example(s) in which you have persevered and overcame a challenge, and (iii) what are your future academic and/or career goals.
    • One (1) faculty letter of recommendation. Due Wednesday, February 19, 2025
